Nuffin on The WOT Show

Nuffin Live On The WOT Show

Nuffin formed back in the heady days of 1976 when punk rock was about to explode, not only in the U.K. but across the world.

Blue touch papers were lit and instead of standing back and taking safety millions of youths across the globe dived straight into the middle of the resulting explosions.

The band were all school friends and decided to give it a go as they were living in the South London suburbs which spawned various punk legends, from Generation X to the Damned.

Part One

After being apart for 38 years the band had a tearful reunion at Lyons Corner House in The Strand and decided that they should make the album that they promised themselves all those years ago. The result was definitely worth waiting for.

Nicked from their Facebook bio:

NUFFIN’ was formed by five teenage school friends from Caterham during the first wave of British Punk Rock in 1976. When original drummer Roger Bullen left to join ‘EATER’ and became ‘Dee Generate’, their second guitarist switched to drums and the current 4-piece line-up was formed:
– Christopher Brown – Vocals
– Steve (Brian Damage) Flynn – Guitar & Vocals
– Paul Flynn – Bass
– Neil Faulkner – Drums
The band had been searching for a name, when Dee Generate mentioned in an interview with sounds that his previous band was called “nothing”.

NUFFIN’s debut gig supporting Eater in February 1977 was banned by the local authorities, worried about Punk Rock coming to the quiet town of Caterham. But the band managed to get their first gig at their local School in March that year. More gigs followed and on 3rd August 1977 they turned up to play the legendary Roxy Club in London, only to find a TV crew had taken over! Luckily, they were looking for undiscovered bands as a counterpoint to the hype of the time, and so NUFFIN’ got to feature in Janet Street-Porter’s LWT documentary: “1977 The Year of Punk”.

The band continued to gig for the next year or so, and a 4-track demo was put down in 1979. But as time went by the young band members paths diverged, and NUFFIN’ eventual disbanded in 1980, albeit on good terms.

Fast forward to 2015 and Detour Records, with the help of Roger Bullen, eventually managed to track down the four original members of NUFFIN’. Their original ’70s 4-track demo was found and included on ‘Bored Teenagers Volume 9′, and the album launch party at The Gunners Bar, Highbury on 2nd December 2016 saw the original line-up play live for the first time in 38 years! The reaction was phenomenal and so, with the generous support of audiences, fellow bands, and promoters – NUFFIN’ were back in business and gigging again.

It was therefore only a question of time before the band went into the studio and finally recorded their long awaited debut album. “CROWD CONTROL” was released in April 2018, comprising 12 original tracks written between 1975-1980. It’s the album that the ‘four Caterham Teenagers’ would have recorded if they’d had the time and resources when they were “busy doin’ Nuffin'” the first time around…. and you’ve gotta wanna hear it!
